President Message

Greetings,

On March 7th, the University of Iowa’s Black Student Union elected its new executive board. I was elected by my peers to be the new President for the upcoming school year, 2012-2013. I cannot express to you how excited the new executive board and I are about this opportunity to grow, stretch, and continue building on the traditions and legacies set before us. The Black Student Union on Iowa’s campus has always been a prominent organization, as well as been a key figure in fighting for the rights of Black/African-American Students who have come to the University, and are associated with the Iowa City Community.

This new executive board has already starting preparing for next fall and is looking at ways in which we, as a black community, can all better come together. We have pointed out words like, academics, community, leadership, and involvement when we think about our goals for the upcoming school year. We want to continue being the change in our community that many of us so passionately talk about, and we want to do so with you and your organization by our side.

In the upcoming weeks we will began to start planning events and programs for the fall. We would love to hear from you and your organization about ways in which we can better support you, as well as ways we can collaborate more in this upcoming school year. We have a brand new executive board with innovative ideas that will return the Black Student Union to being a strong presence at the University of Iowa. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, thoughts, or concerns.

As always, “Go Hawks!”

Sincerely,

Anthony Ferguson, Jr
 -President
